Scientific Innovations and the Gender Perspective

The conference Scientific Innovations and the Gender Perspective organized by CIREM in collaboration with Asociación de Mujeres Investigadoras y Tecnólogas (AMIT), Instituto de la Mujer, Instituto Universitario de Estudios de la Mujer (IUEM),Unidad de Mujeres y Ciencia (UMYC) and the Gendera (Gender Debate in the European Research Area) EU FP 7 project will provide a discussion forum about the successes and future challenges of integrating the gender dimension into Spanish scientific and technical research content.

What does integrating the “gender perspective” in science really mean? What is the state of the art of this debate in Spain? How does this relate to the international debate? – are all questions to be discussed in this forum. Papers will be presented from diverse academic disciplines (medicine and biotechnology, architecture and urban studies, and Information Communication Technologies) whilst policy strategies that give impulse to integrating the gender perspective into Spanish scientific – technical research content will also be discussed.

The seminar is financed by the Research and Development’s (R&D) National Plan [Acción Complementaria del Plan Nacional de I+D+i] and forms part of the project “The gender dimension in scientific- technical research content” [La dimensión de género en los contenidos de la investigación científico-técnica] (FEM 2010-1053-E).

The seminar is aimed at organisational and institutional representatives who play a key role in science, technology and innovation policy in Spain. These include those responsible for the R&D National Plan, regional government plans, specialists in integrating the gender perspective into science (in Spain and other countries) and the Spanish scientific community in general.

Key dates

  • 30th November 2011: Closing date to send abstracts
  • 20th December 2011: Acceptance / rejection decisions of abstracts to be communicated
  • 9th March 2012:    Closing date for sending completed papers.

The date of the conference has to be changed due to general strike in Spain.

The prel. new date is 12-13 April 2012.
