CEPIS Award for Women in ICT

CEPIS has launched a new award to encourage young women to take up and stay in ICT-related education and thus careers, with the first award presented at the closing event of European e-Skills Week 2010. To bridge the gap between the demand for ICT professionals and the decreasing supply of female graduates in the field, CEPIS runs a pan-European competition to promote the update of ICT-related education for women. The winners of the 2010 award were announced at the closing event of European e-Skills Week in Brussels on March 5th and presented by CEPIS Vice President Malgorzata Kalinowska- Iszkowska.

A. Description
CEPIS launched the annual award to encourage young women to take up and stay in ICT-related education and careers. Every year two grants will be admitted to Europe's bright young women for their outstanding achievements in ICT-related fields.
B. Needs addressed
-promote of women in ICT-related education and careers,
-bridge the gap between the demand for ICT professionals and the decreasing supply of female graduates in the field,
-breaking down the gender stereotypes regarding ICT-related education and careers,
-counteract shortages of skilled ICT personnel by mobilising untapped human capital resource
D. Evaluated/ key conclusions
Women represent a valuable resource and will play a key role in Europe's recovery,  without the full participation of women in ICT related studies, Europe will miss out on the enormous talent of 50% of its human capital


E. Plans for continuing the initiative
CEPIS is planning to continue the initiative and grant two bright young women actively involved in ICT-related fields on an annual basis.

The initative is a very good way to encourage young women to take up ICT-related education and careers. It aims to adress numerous needs specified above which makes it especially valuable in the context of the future European social and economic challenges. Finally, its focus on young women guarantees delivering outstanding results.
