ECWT at ICT 2008 in Lyon
The European Centre for Women and Technology will have an exihibiton stand together with Steinbeis Europa Zentrum and under the same heading as at ICT 2006 in Helsinki Women in ICT Contributing to an innovative Europe - E 0.3 Booth Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum has focussed on women in technology issues since year 2000. The main objective was and is to encourage women to get involved in innovation and European research. These activities have been supported by European projects like PROWOMEN (FP5 Thematic Network), WomEn2FP6 and WE-Mentor (FP6 SME Research) WENETT (FP6 DG Enterprise). The results of these projects among others are a database with 245 profiles collected in 10 different countries from women in technology and 10 videos with role models of women in business and science. The experience has shown that women need to be encouraged to get involved and furthermore to network among others and to find out about their opportunity in innovation and European research. The exhibition intends to raise awareness and be a focal point for women participating at the ICT conference and come and get information on existing support structures and networks. Dr. Petra Püchner, Director of Steinbeis Europa Zentrum is responsible for the exhibition and you are welcome to contact Petra by e-mail, or co-ordinator Alexandra Fezer by e-mail. In the Women and ICT stand E 0.3 you will have a possiblity to meet Members of the newly registered European Centre for Women and Technology and find out more about the ECWT's strategy, workplan and activities during coming years and how You can become a member. How we can bring clarity and higher profile to new and emerging ICT occupations and careers, which are more diverse than the conventional image of ICT tends to suggest? 3. How we can transfer best practice to help ICT employer organisations be more welcoming to women. The Session will deliver a) New multi-stakeholder networking and collaborative opportunities to cross-link interest areas and identify joint options to influence policy and action b) Europe-wide insights into the issues, solutions, and best practice c) Practical recommendations for change The Networking session is organized and led by Dr. Elizabeth Pollitzer, the Director of Equalitec, UK, e-mail
