National conference about WRCs in Sweden - WRCs as key drivers of regional development
A half year long dialogue with key actors of regional development and growth was rounded off on the 10 of May in Stockholm when the Swedish National Federation of Resource Centres for Women together with NUTEK - The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, the County Administration of Gävleborg and Södermanland and the RRC SAGA arranged a national conference about 'WRCs - legitimization, criteria and sustainable development'. 60 regional and local RC's and key actors of regional development participated in the event that marked an important stage in the project that is to result in a key set of criteria for WRC's that from the 1st of January 2008 will form the basis of WRC's basic financing and certification. In Sweden there are at present appr 160 local (LRCs), 21 regional (RRCs) and a national RC (NRC) and based on the Swedish modell WRCs have been rapidly increasing in number all around Europe leading to the formation of a European Association of Women Resource Centres (WINNET Europe) on the 20th of June 2006.
